The Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) negotiations team and board of directors unanimously approved a resolution to forgo pursuing across-the-board pay increases for the 2021-2022 academic year. This decision will not impact other pay increases such as promotion or career steps.
The IFO doesn’t take this action lightly. Our campuses are in trouble. After years of declining enrollments, inadequate State support, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic our universities are dealing with large structural deficits. We’ve fought retrenchments on multiple campuses over the last three years. We must be proactive to save as many of the positions on our campuses as possible. Faculty have always been committed to being part of the solution and protecting the long-term viability of our universities.
In addition to this action, we remain committed to finding other solutions to campus budget constraints. These efforts include advocating to State and Federal lawmakers for additional funding, continuing to challenge administrative costs, pushing administrators to find other sources of revenue, campus cost saving measures that protect jobs, and faculty partnering to grow enrollments.
