We know many of our faculty encounter serious financial challenges with their student loan debt. The PSLF Program is a lifeline for public employees and others that forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer, such as a state university.
Join us on Friday, September 30 at 10 am to see if you qualify and how to begin the application for the recently announced waiver process. IFO has partnered with PSLF experts from Education Minnesota to provide helpful information for faculty interested in completing the PSLF process.
The time-limited PSLF Opportunity gives until Oct. 31, 2022, for borrowers to possibly receive credit for payments that previously did not qualify for PSLF or TEPSLF. Learn about the limited PSLF waiver. Our colleagues from MSCF and even our own IFO President have had a lot of success with the waiver process. President Chernega had her student loans forgiven as part of this temporary process. It’s important to start the process ASAP, and the IFO wants to help inform our members about this opportunity.
The presentation will cover:
Loan basics including where to find detailed information about one’s own loan balances (so they can get accurate information about whether to consolidate).
Information on the recent announcement of broad debt forgiveness.
An overview of PSLF including digging into the specifics of the waiver provisions.
If you cannot join us on Friday, we will record the session and provide a link for all faculty next week. If you have any additional questions, please contact us at advocacy@ifo.org.
