The IFO is deeply saddened by the violent attack against a staff member, allegedly a hate crime, reported at Metropolitan State University.
We stand in support of the victim and their family, as well as to all members of the Metro State community. We ask ourselves how such an attack could take place in a community that prides itself on its diverse population and respect for all, regardless of difference. This incident reminds us that we can never be complacent in our commitment to racial justice. Metro State has a proud history of serving diverse populations. Hate crimes can never be tolerated on our campuses. The IFO stands in opposition to hate, with a spirit of humility and resolve to change culture and build safe, equitable campus communities.
The IFO is committed to partnering with all our union brothers and sisters, our student bodies, our colleagues and administrations to eliminate racism on our campuses. This incident reminds us that, while none of us can do everything, each of us can do something.
We have asked for a thorough examination of policies, procedures, and practices in the past at both the campus and system levels. In addition, we remain steadfast in our work towards equity and inclusion at all our institutions.
